Thursday, July 24…..
Dr. Montgomery of Montgomery Chiropractic in Evansville, In. WINS our video contest! Congratulations Dr. Montgomery! And yes he is my Chiropractor, and a great one too! There were no favorites in this contest. Dr. Montgomery was the only one who entered a video! So, Thanks Dr!!
Okay, I know many of you would like to receive a pound of House Of Jerk jerky every month, so I guess making a video wasn’t your type of contest.
I want to try something fun today to see if anyone is reading the Jerky News. Today, July 24 until midnight, I will send everyone a free 1/4 pound of beef jerky, if I receive your email today with “today’s news is free 1/4″ in the subject line, after registering on our site.
Check back soon! Find our contests and recipes in the Jerky News!

Sweet and Spicy Beef Tostada Appetizers
1 package House of Jerky Sweet and Spicy Beef Jerky (on special until july 31st)
1/3 c warm water
2 limes
1 can black beans
Guacamole (fresh store-bought or recipe below)
Sour Cream (Daisy brand is suggested)
1 bag of sturdy tortilla chips
fresh radishes (optional)
Cut the jerky up into nickel-sized pieces and place into a small bowl. Add 1/3 cup of
warm water. Ream the juice of 2 limes into the bowl.
Cover and place into the fridge overnight.
Warm the chips for 10 minutes in a 150 degree oven.
Put the soaked meat mixture into a pan on med-high heat and saute until half of the
liquid is evaporated. Rinse and drain the can of black beans, and then add to the pain.
Cook until heated through and all liquid is evaporated, stirring frequently. Remove from
heat
Assemble the mini tostadas:
Lay the chips out on a serving platter.
Top each chip with spoonful of the meat/bean mixture, a dab of guacamole, and a bit of
sour cream. You can also top each one with a radish slice if you would like. Serve with
any remaining chips and guacamole on the side, and enjoy!
Simple Guacamole
8 ripe avocados
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
Scoop the avocado meats into a bowl. Add the salt and lime juice. Mash the mixture with
a fork until combined and slightly chunky. Add the cilantro, stir, and serve.
This can be made ahead if you cover the surface of the guacamole with plastic wrap to
prevent browning.

We’re cooking up some good recipes for you. Here is the first one. Enjoy!
Black Pepper Beef Jerky Beans
Ingredients:
2 cups dried pinto beans
water
1 package black pepper beef jerky, cut into strips
1/4 cup olive oil
2 teaspoons crushed garlic (or 2 garlic cloves, diced finely)
2 bay leaves
1 medium red onion, diced
1 lemon, juiced
1 lime, juiced
Instructions:
Bring 4 cups of water and beans to a boil in a small covered pot. Turn off the heat. Let
the pot sit for 1 hour.
Move the beans and water to a bowl and cover.
Put the beef jerky strips in same pan with 1/2 c water on medium-high.
Cook for 10 minutes to soften.
Drain the water from the beans in the bowl.
Add olive oil, garlic, bay leaves, drained beans, 2 cups water, red onion, lemon and lime
juice to the pot.
Bring to a boil and reduce heat.
Simmer until desired consistency, stirring occasionally, approximately 2 hours. Remove bay leaves.
Beans make a great side dish for grilled meats, or use them in recipes such as burritos
and tacos for extra flavor.
Nicole says “These are the best beans I’ve ever eaten”.

Tomorrow we remember all those that have died in war. The men and women that died in war all deserve our remembrance, and some time for reflection.
We also need to remember all those that are at war now.
We hope to put a smile on the faces of some of our soldiers, on 4th of July. We hope that you will join us as we once again “Jerky Up” for our troops. For $10.50, your donation will provide enough jerky for four soldiers. Jerky is one of their most requested items.
House of Jerky will match all donations and provide shipping. So, let’s “Jerky Up” for those fine men and women that are serving our Country.
At House of Jerky we are thankful for those that served before, and those that serve now.
